Tahla Ward

Tahla Ward is a young singer-songwriter from the scenic shores of Riverton, New Zealand. She currently resides in Hamilton, studying a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Strategic Management and minoring in Te Reo Māori at The University of Waikato. However, Tahla is an extremely passionate musician, and couldn’t imagine her life without music. From starting singing at just the young age of seven, she has now competed and performed all over New Zealand, and also Australia. While she mainly sings country and folk, she also loves blues, rock, old school, soul, and pop music. While studying in Hamilton, she teaches singing to middle school students. She finds this very rewarding, as Tahla says “it is very rewarding to be able to pass my knowledge onto the next talented generation of musicians”.
She has performed with the likes of Brother Hollow, The Bushwackers, Jenny Mitchell, and has also co-written with Lyn Bowtell. Tahla is also a graduate of the 2025 CMAA Senior Academy of Country Music. She is also in a trio ‘The Dolly's’, who have become renowned for their harmonious sound. Tahla is now embarking on her journey to creating and developing her own music. She will be recording her debut single this December which will be a huge milestone for her career, and it is only just the start!
Tahla loves to share her country soul voice with audiences, and especially sings with raw emotion that crowds can connect with deeply. She is loving diving into her artistry by writing her own songs which she wants to start sharing with more people - so they can resonate with her own stories. Being proudly Māori, Tahla also sings a lot of waiata Māori which she incorporates into her set lists. Her guitar playing beautifully accompanies her voice, and you can truly feel her passion for the instrument shine through with every strum.
